The UK is quite strict about making claims that something is good for your health in the absence of conclusive evidence. Everyone may “know” that tea is good for you, but as a retailer, you cannot go round making that claim willy nilly. However, a number of studies suggest that tea has beneficial effects. Some of the stories recently appearing on the BBC include:

• Tea may be good for your memory.
• Two cups of tea a day could cut the risk of skin cancer.
• Green tea may help fight HIV and cancer and other fatal illnesses.
• Black tea reduces stress.
• Tea can fight ovarian cancer.
• Tea is healthier than water.
• but … apparently adding milk to tea cuts out some of the benefits.

and on a related theme, it seems that making your tea in a teapot is better for retaining those health benefits that tea may have.

In general, it is believed that green tea and pu erh tea have the most health benefits.
