Yun Shan Yin Zhen has a gentle, sweet aroma and a smooth, light taste. You can use the long, silvery green, needle-like tea leaves for several infusions, with the taste of each being slightly different, for example with some darker huskier tones creeping in (a smokiness that comes from charcoal firing).

Only very small amounts of Yun Shan Yin Zhen tea are produced each year, partly because it is a very difficult tea to process (around 5,000 leaves go into a 125g packet of finished tea over several days of production).

Yun Shan Yin Zhen tea (or Jun Shan Yin Zhen) is one of China’s finest teas, indeed one of China’s 10 Famous Teas. The name means Silver Needle of the Gentle Mountain. It was an Imperial Tribute tea in China’s early history, was Mao’s favourite tea and most recently was given by China as an official gift to President Putin. The tea comes from Yun Shan island (after which it is named) in the province of Hunan. [WSIN4041]
